FONTANA, CA – Ephesians New Testament Church, is proud to present the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration hosted by Bishop Emory James. Viewers will be treated to special musical performances, local community leaders, and special featured guest, Civil Rights Leader, Dr. James Lawson Jr.
“At a time when civil unrest seems to be a constant visual on our tv screens and in the news, it is important to commemorate a man that gave his life for equality and justice for people of all races, ethnicities, and religions. We are going to celebrate, educate and uplift the community of Fontana, and hopefully people throughout the Inland Empire,” said Bishop Emory James.

This year’s special guest speaker, Dr. James Lawson Jr. worked directly with Dr King during the civil rights movement. He played a significant role in orchestrating the lunch counter sit-in campaign in Nashville, Tennessee, the largest and most influential of the southern student sit-in campaigns; developed strategy for the Freedom Riders; and taught the theory and practice of nonviolent direct action to students, activists, and future civil rights leaders, including Diane Nash, James Bevel, Bernard Lafayette, Marion Barry, and John Lewis. The Reverend Lawson has been active in many campaigns and in the instruction of emergent leaders. Often referred to as “the mind of the movement,” the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., called him "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world." He remains a staunch defender of human rights.
